The Word of the Lord (Thanks be to God!)

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

“One generation shall laud your works to another and shall declare

your mighty acts…My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and all flesh

will bless his holy name forever and ever.” Psalm 145:4, 21

During the seventh week of fetal development, our baby’s eyes, nostrils, mouth, lungs, arms and legs are continuing to form at a rapid rate. The joints of his limbs begin to appear and he is starting to move his arms and legs. He now has all the “equipment” he will need to praise God after birth and throughout eternity!

Words are important to God. God’s Word did not originate when God spoke into Creation – the Word is eternal with God (Gen. 1:1; Psalm 119:89; John 1:1-14; Colossians 1:15-19). Nothing about God’s words are simple utterances that disappear into the atmosphere: God’s words are eternal and charged with actions (Isaiah 55:10-11). In the past the Word of the Lord was spoken by the prophets, until the manifestation of Jesus – the Word of God himself (John 1:14; Hebrews 1:1-3). As Paul writes in Romans, creation itself is sufficient to communicate that a Creator exists (Romans 1:20); but only preaching – with words - can bring people to faith and belief (Romans 10:17; I Corinthians 1:21).

And once we become children of God (John 1:12) we join our voices with the heavens as they declare the glory of God (Psalm 19:1-6), singing, making music and dancing for joy with the rocks fields and trees (Psalm 96; 149:3), lifting up our hands (Psalm 63:4), and speaking and singing thanksgiving (Col. 3:16-17). We follow Jesus in preaching the gospel to the world, teaching disciples (Mark 16:15).

  • Pray with PPL for all preborn children to be born to hear about the mighty acts of God, to learn of the Gospel, and to join the throngs of heaven and earth praising God for the gift of life!

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to continue to strive with their mothers and fathers to turn in faith to Christ; and for all who defend our current culture of death to hear the truth and be transformed in heart and mind to defend the cause of life!

  • Pray for the church to regain its vocabulary and voice for life and stand as witnesses to God’s word!

“Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives,

while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other.

With thankful hearts, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.”

Colossians 3:16
