Amy S cropPacific Area PPL Chapter forges partnerships and a Virginia church plans meeting to renew their PPL Chapter

This report by Amy Scherschligt

Did you know that 20% of abortions in the US occur in California, home to over 150 abortion facilities and liberal abortion laws. Yet grassroots pro-life organizations abound in this large, diverse state with over 150 pregnancy help centers, coordinated prayer efforts and outreach to Hispanics which are 39% of our population. The challenge: How to unite all these efforts and more to build a culture of life?

A statewide solution began in the summer of 2014 and the Pacific Area chapter of PPL played a key role: logistics, catering arrangements, local promotion and participation in the two day meeting. "Californians For Life" is the result of this inaugural gathering of 100 pro-life leaders from all over California, which was facilitated by national leaders of pro-life organizations. The Chapter continued to participate in the 2015 Summit of 100 leaders and this summer some members attended the July 23rd Summit in Pasadena, CA which is open to 500 "ordinary" Californians. They will pray, network and serve together with workers from every part of the pro-life "vineyard." The chapter is especially excited about outreaching to churches, helping women and advocating for life. One of the goals of the Summit is to inspire participants to grow "life teams" at their churches.

"I am overjoyed to learn about Churches For Life, having read about them in the March PPL newsletter! They are a huge answer to prayer," said Amy Scherschligt chapter president. "Pastor Doug Merkey is producing a 5 minute 'custom' video for us to show at our Summit to explain the concepts and benefits of Life Teams at churches."

Please join us to reactivate our chapter of Presbyterians Pro-Life (PPL) on Sunday July 31 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Small Dining Room. A special presentation will be made by HPC member Tom Glessner, President of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA). NIFLA is a national network of more than 1,350 pro-life pregnancy resource centers nationwide. Tom will be sharing his new book, Created Equal: Reflections on the Unalienable Right to Life. All attending will receive a signed copy of the book. A short film, Sing A Little Louder, will also be viewed.

PPL is a national network of Presbyterian churches that seeks to educate, equip, and motivate their members to be involved on issues relating to the restoration of the sanctity of life. The purpose of this meeting is to identify persons who desire to become active participants in PPL and to educate the congregation of HPC regarding life issues.
