Patchen 2Get equipped for ministry that leads to life! Start every day of the year with a devotion by Joel Patchen focused on a Bible teaching about life.

If you are a Christian who is passionately pro-life, God may want to equip you to be a significant voice for innocent human life. Should you accept this mission you will first want to search God's word and engage in prayer. In 1987, I was confronted with the disturbing news that the denomination I had just joined (PCUSA) had a policy that stated abortion could be a "morally acceptable" decision in certain circumstances, my first response was to go to God in prayer.

Catechism for Young Children - Teach the children well Print E-mail
Written by Marie Bowen

Every seven years Israel was to read the law to all the people, men, women, and "little ones." The reason for this?

"...That they may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God and be careful to do all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God..."

—Deuteronomy 31:12-13

IMG 4598crioTeaching Scripture to children is essential if we are to pass on our Christian faith.

I don't know if you share my experience of growing up in the church. My family's life revolved around our little brown church. I can still close my eyes and see the flannelgraph figures moved by my mother's hand as she told Bible stories that God used to establish my faith. I believe in miracles because I heard missionaries tell their experiences of God's power, provision, care, and rescue. I was not without questions about the reality of all I learned when I encountered other worldviews in college, but God's truth planted in the heart of a child is not easily uprooted.

PCUSA Church “celebrates” abortion provider Planned Parenthood Print E-mail
Written by Marie Bowen

Pro-life Presbyterians should protest, but is there a more effective response?

presbyterianchurchusa2sm“A rally in support of abortion giant Planned Parenthood took place inside a Presbyterian Church in Louisiana last month,” reports Carole Novielli of LifeNews.com.

“Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast organized the “Stand with Women” rally in support of a new abortion facility in Crescent City. The rally took place at the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans affiliated with the PC(USA). Rev. Fred J. Powell, III is the church pastor.”

Novielli’s article includes this link to video of the rally. Rally speakers present a familiar well-scripted message intimating that Planned Parenthood cares about women’s health, women’s bodies, and women’s rights, and “reproductive justice”—especially the “full spectrum” of reproductive justice. What they don’t say but what “full spectrum of reproductive justice” really means is abortion.

How should pro-life Presbyterians and pro-life Presbyterian churches respond?

Real Life Disconnect: 4 leaf clovers are good luck while extra chromosomes are cause for abortion? Print E-mail
Written by Marie Bowen

clover4 leaf clovers are prized. My Grandmother was great at spotting them and I collected several as a child. The extra leaf makes a clover more valuable, treasured, and cherished. Why, then, I cannot help but wonder, is an extra chromosome in a human being—rather than being perceived as a rare gift—considered by 75-90% of parents as cause for abortion?

Wikipedia says this about 4 leaf clovers: The four-leaf clover is an uncommon variation of the common, three-leaved clover. According to tradition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders, especially if found accidentally. In addition, each leaf is believed to represent something: the first is for faith, the second is for hope, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.[1]

It has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000[2] three-leaf clovers for every four-leaf clover.[2]
