1991 Women's charge rings on! PDF Print E-mail

Women from one of PPL’s Chapters crafted a declaration in 1991 that still rings as a proclamation of commitment for pro-life presbyterians today. PPL calls women to accept this charge as we honor all our mothers in May.

We, women and members of Presbyterian Churches – sisters, daughters, mothers, and grandmothers – believe children are a gift from God, created in His image.

We are committed to the protection and care of children, both born and unborn.

We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is called to protect and care for all innocent human beings.

We are committed to giving godly counsel to women and their families who find themselves in crisis pregnancies and to providing tangible helps that will allow both women and their babies to live and be blessed by God.

We believe that the choice of abortion is a choice to destroy the life of an unborn child. We believe that abortion is not a solution to sexual, social, economic, or emotional problems, and is in itself a moral problem that the church ought to stand against.

We believe the people of God are called to live pure lives, to teach and counsel chastity to those who are unmarried and fidelity to those who are married.

We, the women of Presbyterian churches, call our denomination along with her pastors and elders to teach purity and holiness to her people.

We call the church to develop, encourage, and support ministries that offer godly alternatives to abortion, to work in concrete ways that will support our sisters so that they never face a situation where abortion is thought to be their only option, and to develop and encourage ministries that promote healing, forgiveness and reconciliation for those who have had abortions and for those who have aided or encouraged abortions.

Our purpose is to be obedient to the Lord in protecting the lives and well-being of the unborn and their mothers and families. Our desire is to see our church stand against anything that does harm to any innocent and vulnerable member of our human community. We desire to see our church extend the love, mercy and reconciliation of God to those in need.
