PPL announces new resource for abortion after-effects

The General Assembly in 2001, by an overwhelming vote of 450/33/5 called for the Office of Theology and Worship to prepare resources for our congregations’ ministries to women and men who are suffering the effects of abortion decisions.

Discovering
Grace

Opportunities for congregations to minister to women and men affected by abortion decisions and to those who have lost children before birth

The G.A. directed Theology and Worship to work with other groups in the development of these resources. Presbyterians Pro-Life was among the groups specifically mentioned in the G.A. action. The action calls for

...pastoral resources for our Presbyterian congregations that are based on the knowledge that there are women and men in our local churches who suffer from adverse spiritual, emotional, psychological, and physical effects of abortion and are in need of the compassionate and restorative ministry of the gospel.

The G.A. action included no timeline for the development of the resources and no deadline for reporting back to a subsequent G.A. Since June 2001, there has been one meeting for discussion of the development of resources that included PPL representatives.

PPL is fully committed to the biblical teaching that there is no sin that God cannot forgive and no human being that God cannot restore to fellowship with himself. God implores us in his Word to come to him for the forgiveness he has provided through his Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Pro-life ministry in the Christian church is the ministry of the Gospel of our Lord.

It is out of our confidence in God’s forgiveness that PPL now offers a new resource called "Discovering Grace." It is a packet of materials to aid churches in developing ministries specifically for women and men who suffer from adverse effects of abortion and need the compassionate and restorative ministry of the gospel, just as the G.A. action calls for. The packet includes biblical and theological teaching that undergirds such a ministry along with suggestions for equipping and providing such ministry in our churches.

PPL Resource Features:

"A Firm Foundation: Christian Theology and Abortion"
This pamphlet from PPL uses a classically reformed view of Scripture to show how Christian faith relates to issues of life. It is PPL's apologetic for our position. We attempt to set forth no new theology, but rather draw on the doctrines of the Church that have endured through the ages. These ageless doctrines form the basis for a view of life and death, and for the defense of all innocent human beings, including our unborn children.

"Created, Loved, and Called"
Wondering about how to teach the Christian understanding of life to adults in your church? "Created, Loved, and Called" is a video-based curriculum for adult classes or groups. It is designed for six to twelve, hour-long sessions. The curriculum takes a world view approach and uses Reformed teaching, Scripture, and our confessions to help Presbyterians develop a Christian view on issues of life and death.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday materials
Each January, our nation recognizes the sanctity of each human life. Many churches choose a Sunday during that month to observe God's love for the innocent unborn. PPL provides materials as an aid to that observance.
