G.A. establishes task force on "theological clarification"
![]()
Responding to our denomination's "struggle with hard issues," the General Assembly declared that we will enter into "a season of theological clarification of our Presbyterian identity." The Assembly determined that we will do that by means of a task force appointed by the moderators of this and the past two G.A.s (Jack Rogers, Syngman Rhee, and Freda Gardner) in consultation with the General Assembly Nominating Committee. The G.A. ordered a seventeen member task force "reflecting the theological and cultural diversity of the PC(USA)." They will confer with synods, presbyteries and congregations "seeking the peace, unity and purity of the church." The subjects of their work will include issues of "Christology, biblical authority and interpretation, ordination standards, and power."
The task force is to make its final report "to presbyteries and sessions" not later than the time of the G.A. in 2005.
