You are needed to preserve a faithful witness from the church on sexual behavior: Help defeat Amendment A
![]()
"We believe Presbyterians will face this new attempt to wear down the church in the same way they have faced it in the past: with faithful and clear determination to uphold and maintain the standards and the witness of the church."
Tom Sweets, pastor of Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, is serving as a primary resource for Presbyterians working to defeat Amendment A in their presbyteries. The next few months are crucial to the outcome. Contact Pastor Tom Sweets and offer to help: Tsweets@fuse.com, or call the church at 513-791-4470.
Sexual revolution still alive and well in PC(USA)
The sexual revolution is still alive and well in the PC(USA). The sensational "Justice-Love" report to the General Assembly in 199l, although rejected by that Assembly, is still circulating ten years later. The ideas promoted in that report of abolishing marriage and accepting an "anything goes" attitude toward sexual practices by the church are back before us in the form of Amendment A. Once again the church is being asked to regard its own faith with a cynical attitude, as if God's truth has become outdated, and must be changed to meet the desires of a more progressive church.
Faithfulness to the Gospel and its call to obedient living have withstood every challenge
We believe Presbyterians will face this new attempt to wear down the church in the same way they have faced it in the past: with faithful and clear determination to uphold and maintain the standards and the witness of the church. We will continue as we have in the past to insist that in deed as well as in word our leaders are an expression of the Gospel and a faithful witness to that Gospel before the world.
Every elder and pastor is needed in this effort to defeat Amendment A. Whether or not you are a voting member of your presbytery, you can be involved: first in praying with others for our denomination and for the outcome of the vote; second in giving your own witness to the clarity of the Bible's message; and third in helping to get a full voting contingent to the presbytery meeting at which the vote will take place.
