From the President:
Our sacred trust

On behalf of the Board of Presbyterians Pro-Life, I want to thank you for the support you have given PPL over the years. We are humbled by how the Lord has continued to work in and through us, and we are honored by how you have supported this ministry with your gifts and prayers.

We consider the call of God and your support sacred trusts. We rely upon the Lord's grace and your graciousness to be faithful in the stand for life within the arena of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Our work within the denomination has been changing from year to year and the surprises provided by our God have only confirmed again and again that the ministry of PPL is needed more than ever.

PPL has had a presence at the General Assembly since 1985 with teams of 30 to 80 members. In those years we have seen our denomination moderate its position on abortion, provide "relief of conscience" in our medical plan, and take a stand against partial birth abortion; but whatever happened we bore witness to the sanctity of life.

PPL has provided ministry tools for pro-life Presbyterians with resources for alternatives to abortion, guidance on adoption and biblically-based youth sexuality curricula, and help in outreach to women and men affected by abortion decisions. Still developing are events and materials that will enhance the knowledge of Presbyterians who desire to make a difference for life in their denomination and in their nation. One such event is an upcoming consultation on end-of-life issues and one such material is a Life Issues curriculum.

PPL, though, understands that the problems within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are much broader than a lack of righteousness on life issues. There is a need for reformation and renewal. The authority of Scripture, the teaching of the Reformed faith, the power of prayer, and the discipline of the godly life are endangered species within our denominational fellowship. Therefore, PPL has joined hands with other renewal minded Presbyterians to work and pray toward the recovery of a confessional and constitutional church life that honors God and helps people.

In order to do all this, PPL has made commitments to do what it takes to fulfill our call from God. We support Terry Schlossberg in her growing influence. We encourage the development of PPL chapters. We maintain an active Board. We publish a newsletter and other materials. And we wait to see what the Lord has for us next.

Our newly developed mission statement will give you a more concise picture of what God has called us to do.

To work for the reformation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and to call our denomination to its biblical and confessional standards, especially regarding the family and the nurture, care and protection of every innocent human life.

We in PPL need you to stand with us in this mission that brings glory to our God in a time of cultural and denominational malaise. Pray for us. Support us. Join us.

The Rev. Dr. Don Elliott is President of Presbyterians Pro-Life. He is pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Corinth, MS.
